- 800 nutritious meals for hungry children throughout the world through Feeding Children Everywhere
- A safe birth in Nepal through Samahope
- Two bio-sand water filters for rural families in Cambodia through The Trailblazer Foundation
- 9 days of basic supplies (pencils, paper, etc.) for the Writing Center at 826 Valencia
Philanthropic Panda just made donations to all of our partner organizations. I'm excited to announce that recent sales have funded the following:
Philanthropic Panda recently made a donation to 826 Valencia to cover basic supplies, such as pencils and paper, for 14 days at The Writing Center. Thanks so much to customers who purchased items from the Urban Collection, as you made this donation possible!
826 Valencia supports students ages 6 - 18 with their writing skills in Bay Area schools and at The Writing Center in the Mission District of San Francisco. They are currently busy with their rigorous but fun summer camps and workshops to "keep students brains humming" year round.
If you live in the Bay Area, be sure to stop by their super fun pirate shop sometime. To learn more about why on earth they have a pirate shop, check out this TED Talk by founder of the organization and renowned author, Dave Eggers.
Philanthropic Panda just received pictures from the Trailblazer Foundation of families using their new bio-sand water filters in Cambodia. Water filters were donated using proceeds from Water Empowerment Necklace sales. Thanks so much to customers who have purchased Water Empowerment Necklaces - you've made it possible for others to have clean drinking water!
Philanthropic Panda recently funded two safe births in Nepal through a partnership with Samahope from sales of items in the Keepsake Collection. According to Samahope, this includes the following: "a certified safe birth attendant attends the pregnancy and birth to provide medical care in case of complications. The attendant also provides pre-natal supplements, and a clean birth kit, which includes soap, a baby blanket and hat, and other supplies to minimize risk of infection."
The United Nations Population Fund states in the article Skilled Attendance at Birth that "skilled attendance at all births is considered to be the single most critical intervention for ensuring safe motherhood." The article goes on to state that evidence has shown that midwives functioning in or very close to a community have a significant impact on reduction of maternal and neonatal mortality.
Thanks so much to our customers who have purchased items from the Keepsake Collection making safe births possible!

Thank you so much to all of our wonderful customers! It's through your support that Philanthropic Panda is able to make an impact. I am pleased to announce that proceeds from the first quarter have been used to purchase a pull pump well for Cambodian villagers and three bicycles for rural Cambodian students through Philanthropic Panda's partnership with the Trailblazer Foundation.
Access to water is important for many reasons. A less obvious reason is that it allows women to become productive members of society. Traditionally women bear the burden of collecting water and as a result miss out on opportunities for education or income earning activities. Other reasons mentioned on Trailblazer's website are that "a well provides villagers the ability to irrigate gardens or create fish ponds, whereby improving their food supply, ultimately their health, and creates the opportunity for income from the sale of excess provisions."
Providing bicycles allows rural Cambodian students to ride to and from faraway schools. Dropout rates are extremely high between primary and secondary school with a major influencing factor being transport. When students are given a bicycle, their attendance rates have been shown to increase by 14.4% and test scores by 18% (World Bicycle Relief 2011 Report). According to Girl Rising's Blog Post Going the Distance: How Bikes Can Bring Education to Girls, "the benefit of equipping school age children with bicycles doesn't end with educational improvement; these bicycles had an empowering effect on communities as well, with improved access to health clinics, new opportunities to generate income, and newfound ease in visiting friends and family."
Thanks again, everyone! Together we are changing lives!
Philanthropic Panda is very excited for our new partnership with Samahope, a non-profit crowdfunding platform that raises funds for heroic doctors that provide free medical treatments for women and children in low-income countries. Samahope featured an interview with Philanthropic Panda's founder Megan Gupta on their blog today. Check it out!
10% of all proceeds from the Keepsake Collection will go to support Samahope. Philanthropic Panda's partnership specifically supports Wangmo Thapa, a skilled birth attendant providing safe births in Nepal. At age 11, Wangmo Thapa's mother passed away while giving birth to her brother, which is one of the main reasons she decided to go into maternal healthcare. With our help, she can secure safe and healthy lives for women and children in her community.
